Telephone charges in India are extremely cheap compared to most other countries Local and National calls can range from less than a rupee to 2 or 3 rupees per minute. International calls to
the United States, UK, Canada and South East Asia cost around 6 rupees per minutes and calls to continental Europe, the Gulf, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan cost around 9 rupees per minute.
The Tariff is approximately the same for Local and International Mobile phone calls.

Fixed Line Providers include: MTNL, BSNL, Tata indicom, Reliance,
Mobile Providers include: Vodafone Essar, Loop, Bharti Airtel and Reliance.

NB: You will not automatically be provided with international call facilities when you have a fixed telephone line connected or installed. This is usually an extra facility and can be bureaucratic in terms of documentation requested. A deposit for international calls will usually be requested.
The same applies to mobile phones.

There are a number of suppliers but probably the best is MTNL, the state provider in Mumbai.     
In order to obtain an internet connection you will first have to have a telephone line connected, then  you can proceed with the internet connection. This can be a drawn out affair if you don't know the procedure and months can go by without a connection. It’s best to get some help in this arena.
Much progress has been made recently with internet connectivity in Mumbai and at the time of writing and you can now get a reliable 1 Mbps connection with no limit download for $30 per month.
Other suppliers include Bharti Airtel, Reliance and Tata.
USB Data Card connections are also available, the main suppliers being Tata Indicom, Bharti Airtel and Reliance.

Electricity supply in Mumbai is reliable although increased demand is putting a huge strain on generation and supply. There are occasional power cuts but these are brief ranging from 5 minutes to half an hour. Most high end apartments have electricity generators to cope with any outages. Recent deals with France and the United States for the supply and build of Nuclear Power plants are hoped to meet the rising demand for electricity in India.
Electricity and power generation is supplied by Reliance Energy and Tata Power respectively.

The supply of gas is either piped directly into the home or supplied by canisters that are delivered to the premises. Canister gas is much more common than piped gas even in high end apartments.  Because gas is considered dangerous the process for obtaining new gas connections can be very bureaucratic, especially for canister gas.
Suppliers include Bharat Gas, Mahanagar Gas.

Satellite and Cable are widely available in Mumbai.

Satellite TV: There are over 100 channels available, the bulk of these are Hindi language channels with some English speaking Indian channels. A variety of foreign channels including HBO, AXN,
BBC World News, CNN, Fox, Warner Brothers, etc are also available. Be careful to choose the right package so you get all the channels you want.

Cable: Similar to satellite with around 100 channels, more are available with a digital set top box which gives a much better picture and costs around $20. Sometimes the local cable people can supply specific foreign channels if you know who to contact.
